Join The Chapter House for an afternoon of reading with Native Drag Queens Lady Shug and Landa Lakes!

Lady Shug and Landa Lakes will be reading 2 books, including Koni, written by Sherrie Begay, Kari A.B. Chew, Steffani A. Cochran, and Donna Courtney Welch. Geared toward young readers, this monolingual children’s book encourages immersion in a vital Native American language as it teaches about opposites. Readers follow engaging, whimsical Koni (the Chickasaw word for skunk) through a variety of day-to-day situations designed to help young readers sniff out opposites like big and little, wet and dry, hungry and full. Koni’s illustrations make the accompanying Chickasaw phrases easy to understand and learn. The book also features an English-to-Chickasaw glossary to further facilitate learning.

This event is in collaboration with the nonprofit Drag Story Hour. Drag Story Hour celebrates reading through the glamorous art of drag. The goals of Drag Story Hour are to build empathy, allow kids to express their authentic selves and become bright lights of change in their communities.
