LA NDN Flea Market
In partnership with Jana Schmieding (Lakota), The Chapter House hosts a biannual LA NDN Flea Market at our space in Los Angeles. Modeled after Flea Markets on many reservations, the market features vendors selling recycled clothing, handcrafted jewelry, art, and more and nonprofit organizations and resource groups. Visitors can participate in artist-led workshops, get connected with local Indigenous groups, dance to music curated by Indigenous DJs, and enjoy food by Indigenous vendors.
At our inaugural Flea, vendors included Jana Schmieding, Kimberly Robertson, Juniper Breez Accessories, Mercedes Zapata, Rose Noire Vintage, Solange Aguilar, Gifted by FreeFrom, The Chief of Style, Styles Boyd, Julie Fiveash, Endless Warpath, Morning Mist Soap LLC, Obsidian Collective, Tekenya Sanchez, Neon Navajo, and The Chapter House.
Indigenous nonprofits like UAII, Sacred Path Indigenous Wellness Center, and So’oh-Shinálí Sister Project provided valuable services to the community . DJ Val the Vandle served up the beats while Tacos Los Cochos served up the tacos.
When the Flea Market ended, Jana Schmieding, Brian Bahe, Monique Moreau, Siena East, and Dash Turner performed comedy for the happy, shopped-out crowd.
