We’re joining The Getty on Saturday, October 11, for a full day of free family fun celebrating Indigenous Peoples’ Day! 💫
This year’s theme honors libraries and storytelling — uplifting the many ways Indigenous peoples carry and share knowledge.
Here’s what’s in store:
🎤 Comedy by TCH Board Member and the incredible MC Jana Schmieding (Lakota)
📖 Poetry readings curated by NDN Girls Book Club featuring Solange Aguilar (Mescalero Apache/Yoeme/Kalinga/Kapampangan), Megan Dorame (Tongva), Erin Marie Lynch (Standing Rock Sioux/Dakota), Tabitha Smith (North Fork Mono/Concow Maidu/Wailaki)
🌀 Zine-making led by Meztli Projects
🖼️ Collage workshop led by us — exploring art as kinship and community storytelling
🎧 DJ sets by TCH bestie, the amazing DEESCO (Teme-Augama Anishnabai)
🎶 Music by Lazaro Arvizu, Jr. (Gabrielino, Tongva)
📚 Drag story time with Bohenne Arreaux (Jena Choctaw) and Johnny Gentleman (Guatemalan Maya and Nicaraguan Ocanxiu)
Big thanks to our friends Meztli Projects and NDN Girls Book Club for helping us uplift Indigenous joy and creativity and get the holiday weekend started. 🌿
