Grogu Is One of Us: Indigeneity, Survival, and the Force
From the moment Grogu appeared in The Mandalorian, Indian Country recognized something deeper, an orphaned child, protected by community, carrying culture and memory through survived violence. This Indigenerd gathering explores how Grogu’s story echoes Indigenous experiences: survival in the wake of attempted genocide, the sacred responsibility of caretaking, and the power of being claimed by community. We’ll watch clips, unpack why Native communities have embraced him, and talk about what it means to see our stories reflected in a galaxy far, far away—especially as we gear up for the next chapter in the Star Wars universe.
Indigenerd is a community gathering space for nerds, dreamers, and storytellers preparing for Star Wars Celebration Los Angeles 2027 — and beyond. Rooted at The Chapter House, this program explores the powerful connections between Indigenous worldviews and the stories that shape modern fandom: Star Wars, X-Men, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, and more.
Come build community. Come geek out. Come imagine Indigenous futures in a galaxy far, far away!!!
As always, may the Force be with you.
